Miitopia Review Overview

Miitopia is a delightful game developed by Nintendo that first launched on the Nintendo 3DS and later made its way to the Switch with exciting new features. The Makeup Menu offers players the opportunity to personalize their Miis even further, while the Outings feature allows you to take your Miis on fun adventures, enhancing their relationships. In addition, the Switch version introduces a horse companion, which provides unique abilities that grow as your bond deepens. Miitopia is a charming and engaging experience that comes highly recommended for its whimsical appeal.

Story

In the enchanting realm of Miitopia, tranquility reigned until a malevolent dark lord began to steal the faces of its inhabitants, adorning his monstrous minions with their likenesses. As you take on the role of a Mii of your choosing, your quest is to reclaim these stolen faces by vanquishing the creatures that bear them. Throughout your adventure, you’ll gather a team of custom-designed Miis, each imbued with unique personalities and roles that function as classes in traditional MMOs. These personalities influence their behavior in battles, adding depth to your strategy. Your journey will lead you through diverse worlds, where you’ll face challenges such as helping a king restore his face and thwarting a cunning genie to reclaim a town’s treasure, all culminating in an epic confrontation with the dark lord.

Gameplay

This game offers extensive customization options that enhance your experience. As previously mentioned, you can assign distinct personalities to the Miis in your party, which influences their actions in various situations. For example, a gentle Mii may choose to spare a monster, while a determined Mii prepares to withstand attacks, reducing damage taken. Additionally, you can foster relationships among characters, providing valuable team bonuses. During your stay at the Inn, you can send your Miis on outings to strengthen their bonds. The greater their relationship level, the more they will support one another in battle, enhancing each other’s attacks and overall performance.

Miitopia Review – Final Thoughts

One notable limitation of the game is the control system, where only your character is manageable while your party operates on auto. This design choice is somewhat disappointing, as I would have preferred a feature allowing players to customize their party’s control settings, making it more akin to other tactical RPGs. Additionally, the option to set your main character on auto is a common feature in Idle RPGs, so it seems reasonable to expect the ability to toggle both your main character and the team between auto and manual control.
This game offers a delightful experience that belies its simplicity, making it easy to recommend solely for its charming appeal. The vibrant environments captivate players, while the humor woven into the story adds to its enjoyment. A significant part of this charm stems from the game’s extensive customization options, particularly for those who love to create uniquely amusing Miis.
