Ness is the main protagonist of the game earthbound (mother 2 in Japan). Ness and his friends can control a special physic energy known as PSI. Nesses moveset allows for plenty of variety and mix-up options. Projectiles for zoning, good and reliable grabs, and several good attack options and a reflector.

Zelda is the princess of Hyrule. Though usually the princess that link has to save, Zelda definitely has the power to defend herself. Zelda is a master of magic and has helped link on a number of occasion. Zelda is a good character for zoning but is overall a glass cannon. She’s lightweight and floaty, and has good Knock Out potential.

Captain Falcon is one of those characters that is more know for his smash appearances than his home game. It doesn’t help that most of his past is shrouded in mystery. A high-speed racer and galaxy renowned bounty hunter, Captain Falcon is no stranger to high-speed action. Although technically a heavyweight, Captain Falcon is the second-fastest in the game. Captain Falcon uses his speed and good a combo game to outlast his opponent.

Falco is the cool-headed ace pilot from team Starfox. The friend and rival to Fox McCloud, Falco Lombardi is the best pilot to ever fly an arwing. He’s basically Han Solo if Han Solo was a bird. Falco is fast in the air and lightweight. He has good combo potential and, just like Fox, can use his blaster to deal good damage on the opponent.

Luigi, Mario’s brother and his player 2. Luigi is mostly overshadowed by his brother’s success and is often timid and cowardly. Despite this when Mario was kidnapped by King Boo, Luigi strapped on the Poltergust and went to save his brother. Though similar, Luigi is played a bit differently from Mario. Luigi is quick in the air, so he shines with off-stage combat. Luigi’s aerials will be your best tools if you play this character.

Marth is the last surviving prince of a kingdom taken over by an evil force lead by the Dark Dragon Medeus. Marth is the welder of the legendary Falchion. The Falchion is a mystical blade that has the ability to take down the Dark Dragon. Marth is a pretty flexible character with a lot of combo potential. For Marth, spacing is important, even more than most fighters. The tip of Marths Falchion does more damage and knockback than the blade, but the base of the sword is good for combo starters.

Jigglypuff was an odd addition to smash back on the N64, but several years later it’s hard to picture smash without her! Jigglypuff is known as the balloon Pokémon. Jigglypuff can inflate herself to attack enemies, as well as sing a song that can put them to sleep. Jigglypuff’s is light and floaty, which gives her an excellent air game. Her strongest move is rest which has massive knockback and damage.

Peach is the regal ruler of the mushroom kingdom, when she’s not busy getting kidnapped that is. Peach has been dubbed by pro smash players as one of the most technical characters in the game. Peach can use her turnips to zone opponents, and her Float ability makes for good combo setups.

Daisy is the spunky princess of sarasaland. A bus more sporty and outgoing than Peach, Daisy will not hesitate to get into a fist fight. Moveset wise, there is little difference between peach and daisy so the same strategies apply. Use float to start combos and use turnips to zone opponents.

Bowser is not only the heaviest character in the game, he also has passive armor that makes him resistant to knockbacks. His powerful attacks can be used to put pressure on your opponent.

The Ice Climbers are an interesting character. Their first and only appearance is the ice climbers game on the NES. In that game you and a friend control Popo and Nana in an attempt to get to the top of a mountain. The ice climbers have a good grab game, as well as some good aerials and combo potential.

The prince of Ylisee and father of Lucina, Chrom, is the main character of fire emblem awakening. Impulsive but well-meaning, Chrom is a great leader and tries to be an inspiration to his teammates and his kingdom. Much like his ancestors before him, he is the wielder of the Falchion, a special sword that only Yliseen royalty can weld. Chrom uses the sword to fight and free the land from an evil dragon king, just like his ancestor Marth. The main difference between Chrom and Roy is the exact difference between Marth and Lucina. That is Chrom’s hit boxes are more consistent but do overall less damage, compared to Roy.

Sheik is the last of the Sheikah, a clan of ninja like people that vanished a long time ago. Or at least that’s what she claimed. She is princess Zelda in disguise, an alter ego made to hide from Ganon, as well as guide link through his adventure. Sheik is fast and has good combo game, though she lacks in kill options. Her speed is good against Zoners and can easily close in on opponents.

Meta knight is Kirby’s sometimes enemy, sometimes friend. He may seem like a lone wolf, but deep down, he cares for his friends and teammates. He wields a legendary sword called Galaxia, a sword forged by a legendary sword smith and imbued with magical properties. He is also the captain of the halberd, an airship that he uses to defend the people of dreamland. Meta knight has to be precise with his movements if you want to get good with this character. His speed allows him to gain compos at lower damage percents. He has multiple jumps but has pretty slow air mobility compared to other characters with more than two jumps. His sword allows him to have a more extended range compared to that of Kirby.

Over the years, Mario has taken on many jobs, plumber, construction worker, referees, and most importantly, a Doctor. Now, weather he is fully licensed is a matter of debate. Dr. Mario is slower and doesn’t jump as high as Mario. Dr. Mario has stronger with some of his moves as well as higher knock back.

Playful and mischievous, Pichu is the pre-evolution of Pikachu and was initially added to smash as a joke character back in melee. But that was the past, now Pichu is a very valuable and reliable character to play. Being so young, Pichu doesn’t know how to properly handle his electricity, and tends to shock himself causing recoil damage. Pichu is fast and light (the lightest in the game) so he is able to do quick attacks and get out of danger

Pikachu is the electric mouse Pokémon. The mascot of the Pokémon franchise, this little mouse is not to be underestimated. Pikachu is fast and has some good approach options. Pikachu has a good neutral game allowing him to deal damage and avoid getting hit himself.
